How do I know if my phone is unlocked?

I bought my device (Note 4) with Fido, however I bought it seperate from my contracr (I bought it full price, and used it with the "Bring your own phone" deal). Is it unlocked or is it locked?

To expand on what the others have said, *any* phone bought through*any* provider is locked, except the Nexus line and, hopefully, the Pixel line.

  Welcome to the community!

  If you bought your Note 4 from Fido, I think it would be locked. It does not matter whether you paid full price or bought it separately or have a plan without subsidy (BYOP), Samsung phones from Fido are generally locked.

@florenceyu All Nexus phones come factory unlocked, but for other phones if you are not sure the best way is to put in a SIM from another carrier and if it is locked it will ask you for an unlock code.
