Google Pixel Xl

My daughter has a Google pixel xl. Ahe received a message today that her phone needed a reset and then shortly after, her screen froze. She turned it off and when we tried to turn her ohine back on, its unresponsive.  We've held the start button down for several seconds but still nothing.  Can this be fixed?

Do you remember the exact message she got before the screen froze? Did you also press and hold the Volume down and Power buttons together? You can do this with the phone plugged in case there is no more battery.
