I just signed up for a new account online and can't find an option in my services/mobile to activate my sim card. it is a monthly plan.
only option is to update sim card and i do not have an old sim card to switch from.
Do i have to go into a store to activate? If so, this was not indicated when i chose the online order.

The SIM card that is included in the box can be used right away without activating it. If you had a cellphone number with a previous provider that you'd like to bring over to Fido, you can contact customer service, they will get that done for you!
