Both Canada and the US use the same North American Numbering Plan (NANP). North American toll-free numbers are controlled by a RespOrg. The organisation maintains the registry database in which any toll-free number may be directed to a local or long-distance geographic telephone number. That is, the location of the number does not necessarily indicate the location of the agency using the number.
