Upgrade device then change plan? Vice Versa?

Is it possible to upgrade your phone then change to a better plan after? Or is it not possible because I would be locked in for another 2 years?
Vice versa?

You certainly can upgrade your phone with your current plan and then change the plan at anytime providing the plan you are changing to is in the same category. Fees may apply if changing to a different category.
