I was charged $50 for the setup service fee which I consider too expensive, even worse after I underestood that doing it online can save you money. We really didnt know much about how SIM cards works here cause we have just arrived and we needed the SIM card urgently, but I would have appreciated the suggestion by the workers in the store.

The only way to avoid the setup fee is to do it through self-serve online.
I understand you felt like the store employee should have told you but it's not their job to do that, the store exists to provide customers with whatever service they need that they can provide.
You can always call customer service and see what they can do for you.
