If I accept the recommended plan that I Recieved from fido does my contract get extended or renewed for another 2 years? Or does it stay in the same timeline? Because I would really like to get a new phone next year when my contract expires.

Changing your plan doesn't renew your contract, so you'll be able to get a new phone when your contract expires!
