Hi All,

My family is new to Toronto.

Am planing a tablet + data only SIM for my kids&spouse at home. Can we use it for incoming calls on network?

Whenever I go for work, can I call to this data only SIM number and talk over network(not on whatsapp/internet)?

Also I have a plan if my wife goes for job later, we can change it to some actual mobile call number, add call plans and use it with any mobile later?

Hello Pv_aju,

  Welcome to the community!

While the SIM card would have a number associated with it, those tablet plans are intended as data-only and no longer supports calling or texting (see here and here). In addition, most tablets do not have a dialler app to make or receive calls nor do they have any text messaging app..

Unfortunately, I don't think it is possible to migrate a Tablet plan over to a Data, Talk, & Text plan for use in a mobile phone. If you wanted to use the SIM for calls and messaging at a late date, I believe you would need to get a Data, Talk & Text plan. You should be able to use that SIM card in a Tablet for data, though calls and messaging still would likely not work as most tablets are not designed for that usage. Your wife could then use that SIM at a later date in a mobile phone.

 Hope this helps 😀

Cheers
