Not getting LTE connection after switching to Fido

I just switched over from Koodo to Fido for that $34 for 30 GB 4G plan. 

 

Prior to switching, my Google Pixel 6 always connected to LTE and I got great speeds. After switching to Fido, the Pixel 6 only connects to H+ and it has bad speeds after using the speed test app to check. To put this in perspective, I'm getting around 7 Mbps. I was getting 100 Mbps on Koodo. 

 

I did get this phone from Freedom Mobile but I don't think it is an issue since I had no problems with Koodo. 

 

I also tried restarting my phone but the results are the same. Is it the APN? I looked around and I made it is connected to ltemobile.apn. I also tried the preferred network setting - tried setting it to 5G (Recommended) and LTE but they produce the same results. 

 

Anyone knows if it's just my phone or my settings? Is there something I'm missing?

  Welcome to the community!

 

  Sorry to hear you're having issues connecting to the LTE network after switching to Fido. The ltemobile.apn is the proper APN. You might consider verifying the settings of that APN. You can do so with information provided here.

 

  Is your device unable to access the LTE network from everywhere or only at certain locations? Are you having the same issue outside? If it is only at certain areas, it's possible your locality is unable to receive adequate Fido/Rogers LTE signal. The different providers often do not have cellular towers at the same locations. Your location could be closer to Telus (Koodo) cellular towers rather than Rogers' towers. You can view your area cellular towers here.

 

  In addition to your proximity to the cellular towers, the bands/frequencies used at your area cellular towers may also affect LTE reception. The lower frequencies tend to be able to travel farther and penetrate deeper into structures than higher frequencies (see here). If your local Fido/Rogers cellular towers do not use the lower frequencies, that could also account for your issue. 

 

  If you are able to access the LTE network when you are outside, you should note that there are also many other factors which can affect cellular reception (see here and here). That's why no mobile provider can guarantee service. There are just too many factors beyond their control.

 

  You might consider trying to access the Fido/Rogers LTE network from different locations. If you are unable to access that network from any location, that would suggest your issue might not be related to your area in relation to the cellular towers.

 

  If you have access to Wifi at your location and your plan and phone are supported for Wifi-calling, that service may be an option. Rather than connecting to the Fido/Rogers network via cellular towers, your device would connect via Wifi.

 

  Unfortunately, if your circumstances don't allow for adequate cellular signal, there isn't much that can be done. It's a common misunderstanding that any mobile provider will suit everyone everywhere. That simply isn't the case. If you are unable to receive signal where you live from your mobile provider's coverage, perhaps that mobile provider isn't the right one for you.

Welcome to the community!

 

Try reseating the SIM card, with the phone off take out the SIM card then reinsert it and power up the phone.

You can also confirm the APN setting here, you don't need to set it on 5G as Fido does not provide 5G connection setting the device to LTE should suffice that is how I have mine.

 

If the problem still persists then I would recommend you contact customer service directly and ask them to do a reset to switch and see if it helps.

Thanks for the suggestions. It didn't seem to work. I guess I'll have to contact customer service!
