New phone and plan but wanting old number

When i purchased my new phone and a new plan I was supposed to have my old number switch over to the new phone and be able to use my old SIM card. However when I log in on fido.ca to view my old plan its listed as active and to login to activate my account I must use my new number. Is this typical?

lemme get this right, your an existing cx but you went to a store and opened a new account and got a new phone?  why???  if your an existing customer already, your suppost to use your number and get an upgrade
