Implications of cancelling a phone plan with Fido

Hello,

I do have some related questions about the implications of cancelling a phone plan with Fido.
1. Could I keep the same number if I cancel with Fido and contract with another phone company in Canada?
2. Would I be charged a fee for cancelling the plan with Fido?
3. By contracting with another company, would I be subject to a line activation charge, despite having a telephone number?

Thank you very much,

best regards,

Yolaine

Hello Yolaine41289,

Firstly, you do not want to cancel your services with Fido. That's not to say that you are not able to switch providers, though. In order to keep your phone number, your line and number need to remain active for the porting process (see here). If you first cancel your services, your new provider won't be able to port your current number to them. Once the number port completes, your line with Fido would automatically get cancelled.

There are no longer any contracts associated with Fido services. Any contract would be for financing devices. As such, there would not be any fees associated with cancelling your services. If you are financing a device, you would be required to pay the remaining balance on the device.

Unfortunately, we cannot comment on the practices of other providers. However, in general, porting your phone number does not usually waive any activation or set-up fees.

Hope this helps 😀

Cheers
