Hide my caller ID

Hi there,

I'm Farid and I had a question. When I call someone that does not have my phone number, for him/her my ID is visible and I don't want my ID to be shown and even my parents. If you can please guide me how can I do this? And by hiding my caller ID, I mean someone who does not have my number I don't want my ID to be shown, even for calls related to companies entities.

I recently called Fido about the same issue and didn't really get much help. In my case I personally do not feel comfortable having my full government name shown as my caller id display each time I call someone. I rather just have my number shown and that's all. But now I'm wondering, I have to dial #31# each time?!? Is that not a long process and can I not simply not have a caller display as it seems as if it is mandatory

  Welcome to the community!

 

  Unfortunately, I do not think it is possible to remove the caller identification displayed. However, as far as I am aware, you should be able to change the call display name (see here). You should be able to do so via your My Account --> My Usage. From your Dashboard, the option to Change call display name is located near the bottom of the page, under Quick Actions (see also here).

 

  I understand changing the displayed name is not the same as showing your phone number or blocking the number from being displayed. As far as I am aware, the block code would need to be entered before each call (see here).

Hello @faridpassand , if I understand correctly  you want to hide your number only for certain calls and not for all calls. You can hide your caller id when calling someone by doing this. 

 

To block:

  • Temporary: Type #31#, free of charge, before each phone call.
  • Permanent: call customer service to make your caller ID private 

To unblock:

  • Temporary: If name and number display is permanently blocked via your phone's menus, you can unblock it by dialing *31# before placing a call.
  • Permanent: Consult your phone’s User Guide for the steps to follow.

These instructions match what is on Fido's web site, but when I try it on my phone #31# returns Carrier Message: 'Hide Outgoing Caller ID Service has been disabled'. When I try *31#, it returns Carrier Message: 'Hide Outgoing Caller ID Service was enabled', i.e. the opposite of what is claimed in the documentation. Also I confirmed that the carrier messages are correct (and the documentation is wrong) by calling my partner's phone: when I entered *31# my calls showed up as Private Number. So it seems the post above and Fido's documentation are both incorrect.

 

Can anyone else confirm this? If so the docs should be updated because this could have important legal/safety implications for people who want to make calls without caller id revealing who they are.

Hello @ger it sounds like you are sending the code by itself you need to include the number you are calling (#31#4161234567) and the ID will be blocked.
