Device protection to offset upfront device cost

I have talked to few of my friends that are with Fido, they have told me that Fido waved upfront cost of the device if they sign up for 3 month ($9x3) device protection ( which can be cancelled after 3 month ). 

I have looked around Fido site, and no information could be found about it. 

Can anyone confirm or deny?
