Our home internet connection keeps dropping intermetently... tried power cycling the modem. The cables are connected properly and no issues.

That's quite odd!
Please try the following: Power off and unplug the modem from the power outlet. Wait 30 seconds, plug it back in the power outlet and power it back on. Wait for the modem to boot back up.
