A cool feature I use on my Samsung S6 Edge is the 'Smart Alert'. With this feature on I don't have to turn my screen on to see if I have any missed calls or notifications As soon as I pick up the phone it will vibrate to let me know there is something for me to check. If it doesn't vibrate; no reason to turn the screen on.
You can enable this feature going to Settings>Motions and Gestures. Lots of other cool features in this setting category!
