How to Put Your iPhone in DFU Mode

The DFU mode is kind of a technical process, but roughly what you need to know is that this will allow iTunes to restore your iPhone from any glitchy state. It's not something you'll want to do lightly though, you should really only perform this when your iPhone does not respond to any other troubleshooting steps. Of course, you'll also want to know that this will erase all your content... but hey, at least maybe it'll save your phone!

iPhone 8, 8 Plus and X:

1. Plug the phone to the computer and launch iTunes.

2. Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes (super important).

Mac: App Store > Updates
You need to update both macOS and iTunes.

Windows: iTunes > Help > Check for Updates

3. Press and quickly release the volume up button, then do the same thing with the volume down button.
Press and hold the power button until the screen turns black and release immediately.

If you see the Apple logo or the "Connect to iTunes" screen, you need to start over.

Look at the computer screen. If this step is completed properly, the iPhone screen should remain black and you'll only see a pop-up window on the iTunes screen saying that an iPhone in recovery mode was detected. Click "OK".

4. Click "Restore iPhone" and once the restore process is complete, set up your iPhone like a new one.

5. If all these steps failed to revive your iPhone, you need to start thinking about a replacement option. Contact Fido's awesome support team to find out about your options.

iPhone 7, 7 Plus and older generations:

1. Turn off the phone if it's not off already.
If it doesn't turn off, perform a hard reset but release the buttons as soon as the screen turns black.

2. Connect the iPhone to the computer and launch iTunes.

3. Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes (super important).

Mac: App Store > Updates
You need to update both macOS and iTunes.

Windows: iTunes > Help > Check for Updates

4. iPhone 7 and 7 Plus: Press and hold both the power button and the volume down button simultaneously for 8 seconds.
Release the power button but keep pressing the volume down button.

iPhone 6s, 6s Plus, SE and older generations: Press and hold both the power button and the main button simultaneously for 8 seconds.
Release the power button but keep pressing the main button.

Look at the computer screen. If this step is completed properly, the iPhone screen should remain black and you'll only see a pop-up window on the iTunes screen saying that an iPhone in recovery mode was detected, only then release the iPhone button. Click "OK".

If you see the Apple logo or the "Connect to iTunes" screen at any moment during this step, you need to start over.

5. Click "Restore iPhone" and once the restore process is complete, set up your iPhone like a new one.

6. If all these steps failed to revive your iPhone, you need to start thinking about a replacement option. Contact Fido's awesome support team to find out about your options.
