texting issue

I changed my phone number a few months ago, but once in a while receivers of text messages say they are receiving text messages from my old defunct number.  How is this possible?

I have an iPhone 5, typically use iMessage, unless it wont go through

That is pretty weird,  the only thing I can think of is that they may have your old number still stored in their address book, and since it's associated to your name, the phone swaps the displayed number. But honestly that's a long shot. I actually doubt that's the case. Maybe some type of iMessage glitch,

Ideas anyone?
