my earpods work with my LG5, however, the volumn and play/pause etc. do not work, is this fixable or did I simply buy the wrong ear phones.  Fido rep advised they would work with my phone...

You can try downloading smartkey from Sony Mobile Communications here (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sonymobile.extras.liveware.extension.smartkey&hl=e... This app might fix the play pause button.  

There may not be a solution to your headphone volume control problem. Apparently I learned last year that the volume control from most headphones will not work on android phones.

Did you make sure that the earpods were compatible with the LG G5? Which earpods did you purchase?
