Incoming email is fast, but slow sending

I have an iphone 3gs, I can receive email quite quickly but sending an email either does not work or it is painfully slow.

what gives.  i just renewed my contract and if this is the case i might have to return to a blackberry.

What email client are you using? Do you know if this happens with multiple email accounts?

Sending an email with an attachment will take longer than the transmission of a plain text email.

Have you tried does a reset of network settings (settings>general>reset>reset network settings)

Does this happen when you are on WiFi, Edge or 3G?
