voicemail won't play messages and can't delete

I can't listen to or delete or save messages. I can get as far logging into voicemail and and pressing "1" to listen to the messages then nothing.  I just get a message saying something like "cannot sign you in at this time". My mailbox is full and I need to access a message from earlier today. Any ideas?
