prepaid plan did not take affext

i just got fido prepaid yestarday. i switched from bell and brought my own phone. i selected the $49 canada wide plan and had my number ported over. as per the fido rep who i spoke to over the phone i did not put the $50 onto my account until my number was ported over. but i am being billed on a pay per use basis. the plan did not take affect. but my account says its the plan i have. now i dont have enough to cover the plan. i was told that once i put the funds onto my account they would come off right away and my plan would kick in. what gives?
