For most android devices, notifications for a certain app can be completely turned off.
Go to: Settings > Application Manager > Find the app that you want to shut off notifications for and click it > Click on the "Show Notifications" box and make sure its unchecked.
And from now on, you will never recieve a notification from this particular app!
