CRTC ruling on unlock phone

I would like to know if I have an iPhone 4S that is locked to Fido years ago but is no longer being used, how would the CRTC ruling that comes into effect this Dec about no more unlocking fee on smart phones apply to my old iPhone?  Do I simply take it to a Fido store and get it unlock for free?

Thanks.

Hello @csis,

You can call Fido after December 1st and request to have the phone unlock and they will unlock it free of charge for you.

Hello @KAPABLE-K

thanks for the info.  What about if I am no longer a Fido customer in Dec.  Will they still unlock the phone for me free of charge?

I bought a used iphone and need to get it unlocked. I heard the ruling is that as of Dec 1st its will be free?

Will fido do it for me?

I have a family plan and 3 phones. Cant keep buying new phones.

They should still unlock it but we can get a moderator to confirm this.
