UMIDIGI NOTE 100 does not connect to FIDO data LTE network

I spend  1h at Rogers/Fido store in Etobicoke, and 1,5h with Fido Technical support on the phone testing various configurations and settings, and can not get this phone to work with Fido LTE data network.

The phone indicates that it is connected to data network, mobie data is on, APN setting is correct yet none of the applications using internet is working, each indicates that data network is not available.

BTW - with Fido SIM card I am not able to add or edit any APN configurations.

UMIDIGI NOTE 100 uses Android 14, and it is compatable with all frequencies used by FIDO

Please help, thanks

Hello TomekW,

  Welcome to the community!

Sorry to hear you're having issues connecting to the LTE network for data. Firstly, are you sure that device actually has all of the band/frequencies used by Fido/Rogers? I understand that particular website lists a relatively full set of LTE bands/frequencies. However, I'm not sure of the accuracy of those specifications. Personally, I have found many of their device specifications to be highly generalised and may not accurately reflect a device's true specifications. Many of the other device specification websites do not appear to specify which bands/frequencies that particular device actually has. Most of the websites I have visited usually just list 2G, 3G, 4G, with no elaboration of actual bands or frequencies. In fact, Umidigi's own website does not appear to list the actual band/frequencies for that particular device (see here or here, depending on actual version).

The reason I question the accuracy of those specifications is because the only other listed bands/frequencies I have found for that device are rather different (see here and here, depending on actual version). According to those specifications, that device would appear to only have one compatible band/frequency. It's also possible there could be different versions of that device.

That said, some of their other devices did appear to have most of the compatible bands/frequencies (see here). It's possible your device also has many compatible bands/frequencies. You can view the compatible bands/frequencies here.

You noted that the phone indicates it's connected to a data network. Is that the LTE network or could it be HSPA/HSPA+? You also noted that the APN setting was correct. What APN is the device using? I understand you might not be able to add or edit the APN, however, are you able to view the actual settings? It's possible the APN name might be correct, however, the actual settings could be inaccurate. You can view the proper APN settings here.

Does your phone show adequate signal strength? If the latter specifications are actually correct, that phone could still connect to the LTE networks. However, it's possible the signal is not sufficient for data transmission. The different bands/frequencies vary in their characteristics. Band 7 (2600MHz) has a relatively short effective distance (see image here).

I also understand that mobile data is enabled. Had you attempted to enable roaming data? Occasionally some devices might require that setting to be enabled if the device is used outside of its target locale.

Do you have access to an alternate phone? You might consider trying your SIM card in a different phone. If you experience the same issue with a different phone, it could be an issue with the SIM card itself.

If the device does actually have adequate compatible bands/frequencies, you should note that since the device is not available from Fido (or other Canadian mobile providers) certain features would likely not be supported (ie voLTE and/or Wifi-calling). There have been rumblings about mobile providers needing to support voLTE on devices not purchased from themselves after the '3G' network sunset (July 2025). However, I am not aware of any official stance from Fido or Rogers on the matter.

Hope this helps šŸ˜€

Cheers
