Hi. I'm replacing an old 3g home phone device with a new 4g home phone device (due to 3g network retirement). How do I change the SIM card from old device to new device? Apparently, using the fido site to manage the SIM, there's a verification code sent to the old device but that doesn't work for home phone which doesn't have texting.

Thanks for the responses.

Called CS and, after several tech support transfers, finally got someone with the skills to update the SIM info.

(Calls on previous days connected to agents who literally didn't know what they were doing and I eventually hung up while on hold. Fun times.)

Hi @KAPABLE-K

I see.

Turns out, unfortunately, that the old SIM card is regular size and the gold contacts would not be physically the same dimensions as the new SIM card gold contacts if I tried cutting the old SIM card, and the new 4g device requires nano SIM size. Sounds like a call to CS?

Thanks

@asiaminor2k you will need to visit a store to confirm your identity and purchase the new SIM card, this process will also be faster.

To clarify: New SIM card was received with the 4g home phone device. Can the phone number using old SIM card in old device be ported to new SIM card in new device with CS?

Hello Asiaminor2k,

Welcome to the community!

When having to switch SIM cards, the process would be to simply update the SIM card information on your line. Changing SIM cards has no bearing on the line's phone number.

Since the Home Phone services does not allow for text messaging, your line would not be able to receive the Update SIM card information verification text, as you noted. That's why you would need customer service assistance in order to update the SIM card information. As Kapable-K mentioned, you might need to go to a Fido store so they may verify your identity before updating the information.

Hope this helps 😀

Cheers

Hello @asiaminor2k,

You just need to take the SIM card out of the old device and insert it into the new device. What you are doing online is trying to replace the SIM card with a new SIM card.

If you do need to replace your SIM card, then you would need to visit a Fido corporate store.
