My cellphone used to work fine and receive calls and text messages without having to turn off my phone every day. Now it doesn't get any text or call unless I reset it all the time. I have 4 bars of service. It is making me miss calls and text messages. How do you fix it to where I can recieve text and calls like a function service should?

Hello Fricstix,

Welcome to the community!

Sorry to hear you're having issues with calls and text messages. You should note that these forums are community-driven and not intended as a venue for customer services. We do not have access to customers' accounts.

I understand you have 4 bars of reception. However, can you acertain to which network your device is connected (ie '3G' or LTE etc)? Are you able to use data with your device?

What phone are you using? Had you purchased it from Fido? If not, is it a Canadian version of the devices they sell? If it is not a device they sell, you should note that Fido traditionally have not supported certain services (ie voLTE and/or Wifi-calling etc) on devices or versions of devices they do not sell. Though, that does not necessarily mean people had to purchase from Fido. Fido sells the same Canadian versions of devices as the other Canadian mobile providers as well as local box stores etc. As long as the device was the same version as the one they sold, it was possible for those services to be supported.

On the other hand, non-Canadian versions of devices (ie US or Global Samsung S series etc) would likely not be supported for those services. In addition, other devices from manufacturers which are not generally sold from Fido or Canadian mobile providers (ie Xiaomi, OnePlus, Oppo, etc) are also likely not to be supported for those services (see here, here, here, here. etc).

Without voLTE, calls and/or messages would necessarily fall-back to the '3G' network. Unfortunately, Fido/Rogers intends on decommissioning the UMTS/WCDMA network July 2025. After the '3G' sunset, you would likely not be able to use that device for calls or text messaging.

If your device is not supported for voLTE, it might be having issues switching to the '3G' network for calls and messaging. If that is the case, you might consider manually selecting the UMTS/WCDMA or '3G' network or disabling voLTE to try and maintain that connection for calls. However, as mentioned, that would not work after July 2025.

Alternatively, are you able to test your SIM in a different device? Occasionally, SIM cards might need replacing. If you seem to have the same issue with a different device, you might need to update your SIM card.

If you would like to discuss your situation, you would need to contact customer service

Hope this helps 😀

Cheers
