Re: Esim support

Hey Community!

Just wanted to take a moment to share some good news today Smiley

As of today, April 24th 2019, Fido customers can now activate eSIM on their iPhone Xr, Xs, or Xs Max!

The activation of the eSIM on these devices must be done in participating Fido stores. Our customer contact centre will not be able to activate eSIM so please head over to your local Fido store in order to get it done. Here's a list of participating:

STORE ADDRESS CITY PROVINCE POSTAL CODE
Chinook Centre 6455 Macleod Trail Sw, 146 Calgary AB T2H0K9
Metropolis at Metrotown 4700 Kingsway, 1163 Burnaby BC V5H4M1
Richmond Centre 6551 No. 3 Rd., Unit 1110 Richmond BC V6Y2B6
Guildford Town Centre 10355 – 152nd street, 2542 Surrey  BC V3R7C1
Polo Park 1485 Portage Ave., Z009 Winnipeg  MB R3G0W4
Bramalea City Centre 25 Peel Centre Dr, 113 Brampton  ON L6T3R5
Square One 100 City Center Dr., 1-857 Mississauga ON  L5B1M7
Rideau Centre 50 Rideau St, Unit 327G Ottawa  ON K1N9J7
Fairview Mall 1800 Sheppard Ave. E, Unit 1032 Toronto  ON

M2J5A7

Toronto Eaton Centre 218 Yonge St., H014 Toronto  ON

M5B2H1

Carrefour Laval 3035, Boul. Carrefour, R044 Laval  QC

H7T1C8

Montreal Flagship 1004, rue Sainte-Catherine O, Unit 22 Montréal  QC

H3B5L2

At this time, only these locations can activate a line with eSIM.

Also, keep in mind that eSIM activations are only available on no-term activations at this time.

One last thing to note is that the iPhone on which you're trying to activate the eSIM must have an Internet connection, either through WiFi or through the primary SIM. The connection is used to download the SIM profile to the eSIM.

We hope this helps!

***Update*** As of 06/06/2019 you can now activate an eSIM with an iPhone Xr, Xs, or Xs Max on a 2 year term.

Re: Esim support

I went to store at Richmond Centre and had a frustrating experience as well.

The associate was not able activate the eSIM and got the manager who told me I have to have a regular SIM with a second phone number (from Fido or other provider) before they can switch my number to the eSIM. He also said the eSIM from Fido will never work if I don’t have a physical SIM with another phone number installed on the phone.

Re: Esim support

Hello @SD22

I'm sorry to learn about your experience at the store.

I just want to make sure that I understand your requests here. You are looking to activate a stand alone ESIM? And you don't already have a phone number with us with a physical sim card on your current Iphone?

You do need a physical sim activated already in order to activate a Esim.

Let me know.

Re: Esim support

Hello @FidoKenny,

Thank you for getting back to me. I already have an activated physical SIM card with a Fido number in my phone. I want to switch it to an eSIM instead.

Re: Esim support

Hey Smiley @SD22

I was able to confirm with our support team that the sim swap can be done at our stores.

I invite you to visit one of the participating stores once again so they can have that done for you.

Keep us updated.

Re: Esim support

Hi, is there any conditions for sim swap (from nano to esim) ? i didn't go to the store yet but i read it's only for new fido clients, BYOD or business lines ?

Re: Esim support

Hey @ayahmakki! I hope you're doing well. Smiley

There are no conditions. You can do a SIM swap on an existing line that is on a term or no term. It can only be done in the stores listed above though.

I hope that helps!

Re: Esim support

I have gone to the Richmond store and they say that e-sim can only be activated on a bring your own device plan.

I called Fido to change my plan and they said no need to do that as esim is available on all plans. Term or no term for existing lines. This is based on the information provided by @FidoPhilippe on this forum.

I then went to the Surrey store and they said no they can’t do it as it’s only available on bring your own device plan on new activations.

I need someone from Fido to figure this out and come out with a definitive answer. This is a huge waste of time for your customers.

Im getting fed up and will just dump my line and go to Bell. Fido, get your act together and come out with a FINAL answer please.

Re: Esim support

Here are some updates on switching to the esim. I went back to the Richmond store and this time the associate who helped knew what he needs to do. However, nothing worked. We tried to switch to the esim on two separate phones, an XS and an XR. Both are unlocked so it should not be any issues.

Here is the error message we’ve got.

Re: Esim support

Hey @SD22!

I'm sad to read that you were not able to get it to work. Can you confirm a few things for me please?

1. What version of the IOS are you running?

2. Did you attempt to restart the device?

3. Did you follow the Apple troubleshooting checklist found here?

Let us know.

Re: Esim support

Hi @FidoPhilippe ,

Both devices are running iOS 12.2.

Yes, I have restarted both devices.

I went through checklist, but still no luck.

Re: Esim support

@SD22

Glad to  see that you were able to meet a representative at the store so he can help you with that.

You definitely should be able to use your Esim without  a problem.

You said earlier that the phones are unlocked. So to confirm with you, those are not certified Fido devices?
