Just wanted to take a moment to share some good news today
As of today, April 24th 2019, Fido customers can now activate eSIM on their iPhone Xr, Xs, or Xs Max!
The activation of the eSIM on these devices must be done in participating Fido stores. Our customer contact centre will not be able to activate eSIM so please head over to your local Fido store in order to get it done. Here's a list of participating:
|Chinook Centre||6455 Macleod Trail Sw, 146||Calgary||AB||T2H0K9|
|Metropolis at Metrotown||4700 Kingsway, 1163||Burnaby||BC||V5H4M1|
|Richmond Centre||6551 No. 3 Rd., Unit 1110||Richmond||BC||V6Y2B6|
|Guildford Town Centre||10355 – 152nd street, 2542||Surrey||BC||V3R7C1|
|Polo Park||1485 Portage Ave., Z009||Winnipeg||MB||R3G0W4|
|Bramalea City Centre||25 Peel Centre Dr, 113||Brampton||ON||L6T3R5|
|Square One||100 City Center Dr., 1-857||Mississauga||ON||L5B1M7|
|Rideau Centre||50 Rideau St, Unit 327G||Ottawa||ON||K1N9J7|
|Fairview Mall||1800 Sheppard Ave. E, Unit 1032||Toronto||ON||
|Toronto Eaton Centre||218 Yonge St., H014||Toronto||ON||
|Carrefour Laval||3035, Boul. Carrefour, R044||Laval||QC||
|Montreal Flagship||1004, rue Sainte-Catherine O, Unit 22||Montréal||QC||
At this time, only these locations can activate a line with eSIM.
Also, keep in mind that eSIM activations are only available on no-term activations at this time.
One last thing to note is that the iPhone on which you're trying to activate the eSIM must have an Internet connection, either through WiFi or through the primary SIM. The connection is used to download the SIM profile to the eSIM.
We hope this helps!
***Update*** As of 06/06/2019 you can now activate an eSIM with an iPhone Xr, Xs, or Xs Max on a 2 year term.
I went to store at Richmond Centre and had a frustrating experience as well.
The associate was not able activate the eSIM and got the manager who told me I have to have a regular SIM with a second phone number (from Fido or other provider) before they can switch my number to the eSIM. He also said the eSIM from Fido will never work if I don’t have a physical SIM with another phone number installed on the phone.
I'm sorry to learn about your experience at the store.
I just want to make sure that I understand your requests here. You are looking to activate a stand alone ESIM? And you don't already have a phone number with us with a physical sim card on your current Iphone?
You do need a physical sim activated already in order to activate a Esim.
Let me know.
I have gone to the Richmond store and they say that e-sim can only be activated on a bring your own device plan.
I called Fido to change my plan and they said no need to do that as esim is available on all plans. Term or no term for existing lines. This is based on the information provided by @FidoPhilippe on this forum.
I then went to the Surrey store and they said no they can’t do it as it’s only available on bring your own device plan on new activations.
I need someone from Fido to figure this out and come out with a definitive answer. This is a huge waste of time for your customers.
Im getting fed up and will just dump my line and go to Bell. Fido, get your act together and come out with a FINAL answer please.
So I went to Richmond Fido store last week and set up the Fido esim. But after that I can’t use China Unicom anymore(China Unicom is a physical card),China’s Unicom showed no service.Before I switched to Fido esim,I can still use China Unicom.....IM regret about setting up Fido esim
Here are some updates on switching to the esim. I went back to the Richmond store and this time the associate who helped knew what he needs to do. However, nothing worked. We tried to switch to the esim on two separate phones, an XS and an XR. Both are unlocked so it should not be any issues.
Here is the error message we’ve got.
Glad to see that you were able to meet a representative at the store so he can help you with that.
You definitely should be able to use your Esim without a problem.
You said earlier that the phones are unlocked. So to confirm with you, those are not certified Fido devices?
