Hello,

At the end of April, I will have been with Fido for 10 years.

Over that time, I have had multiple Samsung Galaxy phones. I have been upgrading my phone every 2 years when my contract/Fido Payment Program is fully paid off. Here are the phones I've had along with the years I used them from.

Galaxy S4 (2015 - 2017)

Galaxy S7 (2017 - 2019)

Galaxy S10 (2019 - 2021)

Galaxy S21 (2021 - 2023)

Galaxy S23 (2023 - present)

My Fido Payment Program for the S23 will be fully paid off by early June and I plan on upgrading to a Galaxy S25 on a new 2 year Fido Payment Program at that time.

Every time I upgrade my phone, I have removed the same Nano Sim Card that I started using with the S4 from my old phone and inserted it into the new phone.

I was wondering if it is ok to keep doing this now that the SIM is 10 years old and I will be using it in my 6th phone. Are there quality of service issues and/or feature limitations with using this SIM over and over. Should I be looking to use a new SIM when I upgrade to the S25. Also, going forward, for how many years from first use of a SIM, is it safe to keep using the same SIM? Do SIM cards wear out and fail suddenly?

Hello @pnbrown,

Honestly, you can continue to use a SIM card as long as it keeps working. With technology, anything can fail at any time. SIM cards are no exception.

Since your card is 10 years old, I would definitely say upgrade it when you get your new phone. You typically get a new SIM when you get a new device for free. often, if you go to a store, the agents would not give you a new SIM unless you ask.

It is a good idea to upgrade the SIM card, as technology changes, you can get improved network coverage and speed, access to additional features and even better phone compatibility.
