Will either of these devices work with Fido:

Thanks!

Hi Cawtau,
Thank you again for taking the time to craft and respond to my query. Would the Nokia 2780 Flip work? I saw that it had listed VoLTE in its specs. Under "network" in https://www.hmd.com/en_us/nokia-2780-flip/specs?sku=16WNDR11A01
Thanks!

Hello again,
I understood that device is listed as voLTE-capable. However, as I attempted explain. the issue isn't necessarily whether a device is voLTE-capable or not. Fido has previously not supported voLTE functionality on devices not available from Fido. Unfortunately, I don't believe that device was ever offered from Fido. As such, it's likely it would not be supported for voLTE on the networks -- even though the device, itself, may be voLTE-capable.
As also mentioned, I understand that once the '3G' network is decommissioned, limiting voLTE to only Canadian versions of devices they sell will be problematic for other device users. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any update to Fido's stance on the matter.
Hope this helps 😀
Cheers

Hello Cashewsandtime1,
Similar to the other device you enquired about in your previous post, I don't believe you'll be able to use either fo those devices for calls and/or text messages after the WCDMA / UMTS network sunset. Aside: apologies for replying to your other post with a different name.
With regards to the Nokia 6300, these are the provided specifications:
(EU (except: Europe East Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Georgia) APAC (VN, BD, LK)) 850/900/1800; (International (KH, TH)/RUCIS + EU East Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Georgia/rest of SSA(incl SA)) 850/900/1800; (MENA/CN/SSA: Nigeria, Tanzania) 850/900/1800; (LATAM) 850/900/1800/1900; (US) 850/900/1800/1900
(EU (except: Europe East Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Georgia) APAC (VN, BD, LK)) 1,3,5,7,8,20; (International (KH, TH)/RUCIS + EU East Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Georgia/rest of SSA(incl SA)) 1,3,5,7,8,20,38,40; (MENA/CN/SSA: Nigeria, Tanzania) 1,3,5,7,8,20,28,38,39,40,41 (120 MHz only); (LATAM) 2,3,4,5,7,28; (US) 2,4,5,12,17,66,71
(EU (except: Europe East Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Georgia) APAC (VN, BD, LK)) 1,5,8; (International (KH, TH)/RUCIS + EU East Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Georgia/rest of SSA(incl SA)) 1,5,8; (MENA/CN/SSA: Nigeria, Tanzania) 1,5,8; (LATAM) 1,2,4,5,8; (US) 2,4,5

Whether the device would work with Fido would depend on the version of the device in question. While most versions would appear to have at least some compatible bands/frequencies, the US model appears to have the most compatible LTE bands/frequencies.
With regards to the Nokia 2780 Flip, these are the specifications provided:
850, 900, 1800, 1900
B2, B4, B5, B7, B12, B13, B17, B25, B26, B66, B71, B41(With HPUE)
2, 4, 5
~taken from link provided.
According to those specifications, that device would appear to have all of the compatible bands/frequencies.
So, both of those devices should currently work on the networks. However, it would be important to note that it is unlikely either of those devices would be supported for voLTE and/or Wifi-calling.
If you were not aware, Fido traditionally have not supported certain services (ie voLTE and/or Wifi-calling etc) on devices or versions of devices they do not sell. Though, that does not necessarily mean people had to purchase from Fido. Fido sells the same Canadian versions of devices as the other Canadian mobile providers as well as local box stores etc. As long as the device was the same version as the one they sold, it was possible for those services to be supported.
On the other hand, non-Canadian versions of devices (ie US or Global Samsung S series etc) would likely not be supported for those services. In addition, other devices from manufacturers which are not generally sold from Fido or Canadian mobile providers (ie Xiaomi, OnePlus, Oppo, etc) are also likely not to be supported for those services (see here, here, here, here. etc).
Unfortunately, I don't believe either device is available from Fido (or other Canadian mobile providers) so those features would likely not be supported. In addition, I don't think Fido offers any Nokia devices anymore.
Without voLTE, calls and/or messages would necessarily fall-back to the '3G' network. After the '3G' sunset, you would likely not be able to use either of those devices for calls or text messaging.
I understand that once the '3G' network is decommissioned, limiting voLTE to only Canadian versions of devices they sell will be problematic for other device users. However, I do not know if, or when, they might allow voLTE and/or Wifi-calling support for non-Fido (non-Canadian version) devices.
Hope this helps 😀
