Can IMEI ownership be transferred at a Fido kiosk?

I am going to meet someone at a Fido kiosk to purchase their iPhone 6.  I read this thread

http://forums.fido.ca/t5/forums/forumtopicpage/board-id/Smartphones/thread-id/17138

and it says that there is a 60 day period in which the seller can blacklist the phone because there is no official receipt or record of transaction.  If I am at the Fido kiosk with the seller are they able to officially transfer the IMEI over to my account and remove it from there, thus bypasing the 60 day period?

If that does not work, is there any alternative to remove the IMEI from the sellers account?

Hi @Mark_98 & welcome to the Community! Smiley

While we don't have any way to ''officially'' transfer an IMEI from one account to another, it is possible to add the IMEI to your account and remove the IMEI from the sellers account.

You'll both need to contact us for your respective accounts to have the IMEI added/removed. You can reach us here.

Cheers!

Thank you for the quick response.

In order for the seller to remove and mine to be added, do we do this before I insert my sim card into the purchased phone or after?

Also can this be done at the kiosk or does it have to be done over the phone/online?

I also just spoke with a rep and they told me that the seller can still blacklist the iPhone after the point of sale. This leaves me a bit confused and uncertain.  Please verify.

Before he/she gives you the iPhone...

  1. Turn Find My iPhone OFF
(Settings > iCloud > Find My iPhone > toggle to OFF)
  2. Sign out of seller's iCloud account
(Settings > iCloud > Sign Out)
  3. Erase all the seller's data and accounts
(Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings)
  4. Unregister device at https://appleid.apple.com
(Under Devices, choose iPhone and click Remove)

All the data from the previous owner is now erased and the iPhone cannot be "activation locked" at this point. Additional reading can be found here: https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT201351

Hey @Mark_98,

I took the time to double check this and I'll be happy to clarify Smiley

While we can add the IMEI number to your account, it's unfortunately not possible to remove an IMEI number that has already been saved in someone else's account in our system.

Also, any IMEI that has been registered on an account or was used on that account in the past 60 days, can be added to the blacklist.

Sorry for the previous confusion!
