Adding words to a dictionary to "fight" the autocorrect

Is there a way to add words to a custom dictionary on the iPhone 4? When I email or text, the autocorrect takes some of my words and changes them to the iPhone version which is sometimes way off what I meant. Sometimes I don't notice and I hit the Send button.

I'd like to add some of my own words, names and acronyms so the iPhone will recognize them and not attempt to change them with the autocorrect feature. Please don't tell me to turn off the autocorrect as I do wish to use it..

To add custom words to iPhone dictionary go to Settings and click on the General tab.

General > Keyboards > International Keyboards > Add New Keyboard > Select Japanese Ten Key.

Then go back to General > Keyboards > Edit User Dictionary where you can add your custom words here.

The words will still be underlined red to indicate they are misspelt, but at least the dictionary won't auto-change the word to some other similar word.
