Hello all,
I am getting a alert when calling any number that "This call is being placed using 3G network which will be retired on July 31st. Also, received email that "Starting May 4, 2025, there will be a $3 monthly charge for devices that use our legacy networks to cover the cost of maintaining older technology. Our records indicate that your phone number (###)-###-#### is using a device on our 3G network."
Now, I am using 5G compatable Oneplus 8 Pro with dual physical sim as shown in photos. The FIDO (Rogers) sim shows 4G but when I call any phone number it uses 3G/H+. The second sim Airtel (India network using Rogers in Canada and also shows option VoLTE enabled). I am confused. I have 5G/4G compatable phone but hearing the message that the "call is being made using 3G network". Do I need to do any kind of settings? My friends are using FIDO but they don't get such message. I have recently changed my SIM card too, still same issue. Please advice.

Hello Santoshmadigela,
Welcome to the community!
I understand your device might be 5G capable and have some compatible bands/frequencies for LTE. However, Fido traditionally have not supported certain services (ie voLTE and/or Wifi-calling etc) on devices or versions of devices they do not sell. Though, that does not necessarily mean people had to purchase from Fido. Fido sells the same Canadian versions of devices as the other Canadian mobile providers as well as local box stores etc. As long as the device was the same version as the one they sold, it was possible for those services to be supported.
On the other hand, non-Canadian versions of devices (ie US or Global Samsung S series etc) would likely not be supported for those services. In addition, other devices from manufacturers which are not generally sold from Fido or Canadian mobile providers (ie Xiaomi, OnePlus, Oppo, etc) are also likely not to be supported for those services (see here, here, here, here. etc). Adding an IMEI of an unsupported device would not allow voLTE and/or Wifi-calling to work.
Without voLTE, calls and text messages (SMS and/or MMS) would fall-back to the '3G' network. I understand that once the '3G' network is decommissioned, limiting voLTE to only Canadian versions of devices they sell will be problematic for other device users. However, I am not aware of any official stance from Fido or Rogers on the matter.
Hope this helps 😀
Cheers
