receive text message (sms) while roaming if prepaid balance is 0

I have a prepaid account. Not on any monthly plan. Still paying the old 30 cents a minute when I make a call.

If my balance is 0, can I still receive a text message (sms) while roaming in the USA? I do get a signal through AT&T and I received the standard 'You're roaming with Fido!...' text message. But I can't seem to be able to receive text messages sent to me by other people.

Any ideas?

Hello Cattrall,

  Welcome to the community!

How long has your account had a $0 balance? If your prepaid mobile account balance remains at $0 for 6 consecutive months or if required payments toward your account are not made or are returned, for any reason, your prepaid mobile identifier (e.g., phone number or PIN number) will be deactivated (taken from Terms & Conditions). Has it been six months?

Even if your account has not been deactivated, it's possible it's in a passive state if you haven't refilled in a while (see here). While it's true that you do not get charged for an incoming SMS, your account would need to be active in order to receive them.

Hope this helps Smiley

Cheers
