Unlock phone bought here before 2017

Need to unlock an old pre 2017 phone i had from Fido. I am no longer a customer or client but still wish to get this thing unlocked to use.  I cannot get thru the virtual assistant and there is no way to contact anyone.

  Firstly, you should note these forums are community-driven and not intended as a venue for customer services. We do not have access to customers' accounts nor would we be in any position to unlock devices.

 

  That said, I'm not sure whether Fido would be able to unlock the device for you. As far as I am aware, people wanting to unlock devices needed to have an account in good standing (see here). If you are no longer a customer, I'm not sure whether your old account would still qualify.

 

  As well, you should note that you may or may not be able to use your old device as a phone after July 2025 (assuming you are able to get it unlocked). Fido/Rogers has planned to decommission their '3G' (WCDMA/UMTS) network in July 2025. After that time, all devices would need to be voice-over-LTE (voLTE) capable in order to avail of calling or messaging services. As far as I am aware, Rogers introduced voLTE in 2015 (see here). Depending on the age of the device in question, it may or may not be voLTE compatible (or even LTE-capable).

 

  I understand you have already attempted to contact them, however, if you would like to go over your options, you would need to contact customer service again.
