Switching from Monthly to Prepaid after a week... conflicting information

My niece bought an unlocked phone off eBay, then went to the store and purchased a SIM card and was added to a monthly non-contract plan.

What she wanted, was the prepaid plan instead.

Problem is, I called FIDO and the guy said should be no issue waiving the $35 fee but systems were down, called back (I'm on her account as a contact) and this time was told no, no way around the $35 fee. However... she's had the phone 8 days so he suggested that she go back to the store and under the 15 day satisfaction guranatee, cancel it, and buy a new $10 SIM and go onto prepaid which has $0 activation fee.

I mentioned it was an eBay phone, said didn't matter... problem is I can seem to find anything to print off that backs up the idea. I can find the 15day gurantee if not happy with the phone itself so, not certain if this will work or not. She lives rural-nowhere, so 45-60min to get to the store to find out it doesn't work that way.

Can anyone confirm this? link where I can get her to print it off befroe going to the store?

Thanks

Hi THRobinson,

Sorry to hear about this unpleasant experience.

The 15 day guarantee applies to phone orders as well as activations. There would be no early cancellation fee since she would not be under an agreement nonetheless. Prior to trekking back to the store, I would suggest calling customer service to see about simply migrating the line to a prepaid account without the migration fee.

As a last resort, yes, you can definitely return the SIM to the store and activate a new prepaid account. There is no need to bring a printed document with you, just the receipt and the paperwork received when she activated.
