I’m currently sharing a Fido account with my uncle. Initially, we had separate payment methods for our lines, but now both charges are appearing on a single card. Can I set up separate billing for my line using my own credit card?

Hello 12345618,

Welcome to the community!

You should note these forums are community-driven and not intended as a venue for customer services. We would not have access to customers' accounts nor would we know how your lines have been set-up.

As far as I am aware, in order go get separate billing for your line, you would need to take responsibility for your line. If you would like take over your line, that would be a Transfer of Responsibility (ToR) of your line. You  should note that you would need to open your own account at the time of transfer and that a credit evaluation would likely be required. In addition, it should be noted that there would be a fee for the transfer (see here).

Furthermore, you should also note that if you are currently financing a device, the remaining balance for the device would be required as the financing would not transfer (see Payment Program).

Only customer service would be able to assist you with a ToR. Your uncle would first need to contact customer service and notify them of your intent to transfer the responsibility of your line. You would also need to contact customer service and notify them of your intent to take responsibility for the line and open the account. Your uncle would then need to contact them to complete the transfer. Alternatively, you might consider going to a Fido store with your uncle to perform the ToR.

On the other hand, it would be possible to pay for the line with your own payment method without having to take responsibilty for the line. However, I don't think you would receive a separate bill for your line. I believe your uncle would need to inform you of the amount your owe for the line and you could make payment on his account for your line. I'm not sure whether it is possible to set-up an automatic pre-authorised payment for a set amount monthly rather than the outstanding bill amount. I'm also not sure whether an account can have two pre-authorised payments, if that is how your uncle intends on paying. That said, many banks would allow for a set monthly payment to be made. Though, you may likely need to ensure your payment is received before any payment is made by your uncle or else the full outstanding balance may be charged to him. In addition, a set monthly bank payment would not take into consideration any possible overage charges on your line.

Hope this helps 😀
