Yes, you can purchase a new SIM and have it shipped to your phone, but in order to update the SIM, you would need to receive a code to the old SIM, which you no longer have. You would likely have to go to a store to verify your identity to have the SIM updated.
Since you are away and can not visit a store it might be possible to get it done by speaking to customer service as they have done it in the past under certain circumstances, you can also add you son as an authorize user to make changes to the account and he can go into the store and have it done providing he is of age.
