Hello,

I was out of the country for 8 days, and purchased an esim from airalo. I have returned home and switched back to my FIDO sim but I am experiencing a few challenges ie texts not working or very slow, WhatsApp not working for voice or video calls plus texts very slow. I have restarted my phone several times but doesn’t change. I have turned off the other SIM, do I need to remove it entirely? what network mode should I choose? APN? should I allow automatic network operator identification ? btw I have an S24.

get an qr code picture saved on your mobile phone ,just in case.

Hello @sebluenose , you're overseas esim doesn't need to be removed, just disabled. A few questions for you. Is your fido Sim a physical sim? If so, remove it and start your device without the Sim, also make sure your esim is disabled. Let it boot all the way up, then power down your device and put the dim back on your device and power it back on. Your phone should then repopulate the fido network correctly.

If your fido Sim is an esim,  then disable both your esims, restart your phone, turn the fido Sim back on and ensure it's set to primary and all the functions of the Sim are fido for data, sms and phone calls. Should do it automatically but check it anyway. Then restart your device one more time. A restart ensures the device starts up with the correct settings and network information. Hope that works for you. I have 2 esims and a physical sim on my s23.

Hi Original_Lucy. Thanks so much for this advice. I will try those things.  I believe I do have a physical SIM as under the SIM manager I have under SIM cards my FIDO SIM and under eSIMs is the eSIM i purchased. I will try what you have suggested and get let you know if it works. Thanks!

Hello Sebluenose,

Welcome to the community!

I hope the advice Original_Lucy has solved your issue.

Depending on the device manufacturer implements the device settings, you generally shouldn't have to remove other SIMs entirely. Disabling them should suffice.

Generally, I believe the device should automatically select the appropriate network mode to use. That said, you could choose 5G, 4G, 3G, or 2G or 4G, 3G, or 2G. While the device might automatically default to include 5G, Fido does not currently offer 5G services.

An improper APN setting could account for the issues you are experiencing. Since the device is LTE-capable, it should be using ltemobile.apn. You can verify the proper APN settings here.

As well, it is also generally recommended to allow automatic network operator selection. That setting would allow the device to connect to the best cellular tower for the situation. That said, there is a circumstance where manually choosing the network operator might be preferable. Customers who live by the US border or regularly travel close to the US border might find their devices connecting to US cellular towers rather than Fido/Rogers towers. In that instance, manually selecting the Fido/Rogers network would be beneficial to prevent roaming on US networks.

Hope this helps 😀

Cheers
