I have a 30 gig plan monthly and average around 8-10 gigs per month confirmed by a Fido specialist last month when I called as I apparently used 30 gigs in 2 weeks. I have not made any changes to my phone or how I use it or my data. I'm diligent with turning off background app refreshes, cellular data off with most apps especially ones like YouTube, Netflix or Prime Video and things that track your apps and its data use. The specialist gave me some extra gigs to get through last month and asked I call Fido again if the problem persists. I called Fido today as I am at 34 gigs with 8 days to go in my billing cycle lol.
They said they have no answer for me and that I would just need to upgrade my plan to get more gigs. I want answers as to why this spike of data has been happening the past 2 months. It doesn't make sense that my average usage of data spikes up to an extra 20-25 gigs when I have not done anything different with my use. I'm not going to pay for extra data monthly, but may as well just switch providers if you can't explain this issue.
I have a similar issue with you.
My data was refreshed at 12:00 am and I was sleeping. I came to work (5 min driving distance) 10:00 am in the morning and the system shows that I used up 2.5 gb at 3:12 a.m. It does not make any sense at all. Fido refuses to give me a clear explanation of my data usage. All FIDO customers, please look into your data usage carefully. You can't use data you are paying for.
Good morning @tRaJe_ , that's quite a change in data usage. Have you used maps or used your device as a Hotspot, watched Netflix or YouTube more than usual lately? It could be so many things, Facebook, music streaming, Twitter, Instagram, uploading pictures or videos, etc. If customer support wasn't able to figure it out, something must be using your data. You could try turning your data off for a few hours and see if the usage changes in the app or in your account on fido.ca. I don't know what type of device you have, but if you're using it for your all of your communications and internet access, that can add up. I use wifi when I'm at home, and since more of us have been home in the last 2 years, I barely use a gig each month. If you don't think it's your device, you may be able to get technical support to help track it down. You can also set a warning on your phone for when you are within 1gb of going over. See support contact information Here
I hope you are able to figure this out, happy New Year and stay safe
I've used my maps many times and all that social media with uploading to Instagram prior to the 2 months of increased data usage and my data use was not this high. I also have WiFi at home. For reference, I have an iPhone 10 and have had this phone for a couple years now. My phone went over its data limit last month while I was at home on WiFi and even toggled on the app settings to not use apps unless I'm on WiFi.
Very frustrating, but I will try to turn my data off and see if it shows any changes. Other than that, even if there was a change, Fido doesn't offer me solutions for it, only to buy more gigs which I thought 30 gigs was very safe to have.
Thank you for your reply.
