Apparently the only way to cancel your Fido contract is to call customer services, but I can't because I'm in the UK and the number is not free to call. Furthermore, I have been severely over charged despite turning off data roaming and the e-sim! I need proper customer service to help with my issue and so that I can cancel my contract! How is this legal?!

Hey there @FidoAreThieves6,
Turning off your ''data roaming'' setting will only prevent you from accessing your data while abroad. Doing any other usage will still trigger roaming charges, such as dialing or answering calls or sending SMS. Receing SMS and letting your calls go to your VM will not trigger roaming charges. You can access your invoice and verify what usage was done that triggered the additional charges.
We have a number you can dial from oversea which is free of charge as long as you dial it from your Fido device: 1-514-925-4590.

Could you please confirm that dialling that From Abroad number from a Fido device won't trigger Fido Roam charges since it is technically making a call from abroad? In addition, could you also please confirm that receiving a call from Fido also won't incur Fido Roam charges since customer service appears to now require call-backs?
In addition, as you note, disabling data and roaming data does not prevent roaming for calls and messages. However, it should also be noted that some phones might consider certain system data differently from user data and continue to allow the former usage despite data and roaming data settings disabled. For example, while disabling data and roaming data should prevent data usage on foreign networks, some mobile manufacturers (ie Apple) do seem to allow some data usage despite those settings disabled (see here). That's why in order to prevent roaming charges, it is usually recommended to keep Airplane or Flight modes enabled for the duration of trips. Customers could manually enable Wifi when required.
Even if calling the From Abroad number or receiving a call from Fido do not incur Fido Roam charges, the device settings to allow calling and/or receiving calls (ie disabling Airplane mode) could potentially allow the device use unintentional data and incur roaming charges. Would there be any concessions for that potential data usage while contacting Fido or waiting for a call-back?
If I remember correctly, it used to be possible to call the From Abroad number collect from a land-line. Is that still possible with the new system? If it is still possible, that could eliminate any unintended data usage on some devices since Airplane mode is necessarily disabled for contacting customer service.
Cheers

Hi @Cawtau!

Dialing our specific customer service abroad numbers from your Fido devices won't trigger roaming fees as long as no other usage is made.
Also, the callback feature has been disabled for customers calling those specific abroad numbers while outside the country as we found they weren't able to leave international numbers for callbacks. The change will make so that they can connect directly to an agent, bypassing the callback feature.

Those would need to be treated case-by-case where each situation will be evaluated individually.

No changes have been made regarding our collect-call feature.
Hope this helps!
