Hey Community!

We’re so stoked to announce Fido Roam is coming! This is so cool we’re having trouble holding back our excitement! *takes deep breath*

Ever held back on posting pics during your trip because you were afraid of how much it would cost? Well you don’t have to worry about that anymore! Now you can post a selfie…or ten!  The time to roam worry free with your Fido phone is upon us!

For only *$5 a day in the U.S. and $10 a day internationally, in tons of destinations, Fido Roam allows you to use the data, talk time and texts from your Fido Pulse plan while abroad. You’ll get charged only for the days you use your phone abroad, for a max of 10 days per billing cycle, per zone. This means that you will only be charged a maximum of $50 (in the U.S.) and $100 (internationally) for roaming on any given monthly bill.

Stay connected. Don’t sweat the bill!

Planning to travel in the coming months? Well, thanks to Fido Roam, you can spend less time searching for Wi-Fi and more time searching for fun! All you’ll need to do is turn on data roaming in your phone’s settings and go.

“How do I get Fido Roam?” If you have a Fido Pulse plan, you’ll have access to Fido Roam. It’s just another reason to choose a Fido Pulse plan Very_Happy

The service should be available by mid-May, so stay tuned, we’ll keep the Community updated with anything and everything Fido Roam!

Hey Fido,

This is great news. We're very excited to see this option come to Fido. could you advise what will happen to clients that are not on pulse plans? For example, would a client with a grandfathered loyalty plan be able to use this roaming option?

@Euain Fido Roam is only compatible with Pulse plans, so if you want to take advantage of it, we will need to change your plan. For non-Pulse plan, we will give out more info once Fido roam officially launches. Smiley

Why restrict this to pulse plans only? Fido's current roaming rates are horrible! We need lower prices or more data! Fido Roam is a good start, but open it up to more customers!

@Cccccccccc At this moment, Fido Roam is only for Pulse plans. Our new Pulse plans do come with awesome features such as Spotify Premium and Daily Vice for 2 years. Smiley

Even with Roger's roam like home, it is only available to share all plans customers. Unless rogers changes its likely that it will only be available to pulse plan members. In my opinion fido roam is an amazing feature and I'm glad this will soon to be up and running as I was planning on going to the US and was looking at another cheaper option for phone while I was down there. Now I won't have to! Very_Happy

I really don't understand why loyal customers are penalized and get excluded from new features. We are already paying the highest fees in the world, and the new plans are even more expensive . We need to open up the market to other providers to create real competition.

Initially I was excited about FidoRoam and seems like a great idea. I thought this time I can ditch the competitor and use FidoRoam when travelling to the US. I recently switched to a FidoPulse plan and have enough data for my needs when Roaming. However after reviewing the details of FidoRoam I found a few points that might deter me from using the service.

1. FidoRoam allows use of my pulse minutes and data in US. But my calling minutes are canada wide only. Does this means even with FidoRoam I still have to pay for long distance calls to a US number and Canadain number?

2. I'm planning a trip from Sept 30 to Oct 16 to the states, but by billing cycle ends on the 8th. Does that mean I don't get the 10 or more day free becuase my billing cycle is right in the middle of my Trip?

Hey Wufai! Smiley

These are excellent questions!

If your billing cycle resets during your trip, you will be billed for up to 10 more days in your new cycle. In the example you've given, you would be billed from September 30th to the 8th and then from the 9th to the 16th.

For international calling while roaming, we don't have all the details just yet. Stay tuned for more information Smiley

How does Fido expect to keep customers by limiting the plans that allow for the roam like home. So disappointed. I have been a customer for 15 years and am going to leave when my contract expires in September. Talked to customer retention and their opinion was I have to pay more money and change my plan or pay the same change my plan and loose data or something else. Just awful customer service. When I suggested going to Rogers they simple stated that it was the same company. And that I could but their plans are the same price.

Beyond disbelief and that kind of treatment to a loyal customer that's phone bills have always been over $100 a month. Further the customer loyalty plan I got when the last iPhone came out has everything I need. I refuse to pay extra because they want to add Spotify to my account that I would never use. His explanation was that the plains cater to certain people and clearly they don't cater to me any more. Too bad. I would like to stay but as their representative said I can freely move my phone number so really don't see what's keeping me. Plus the treatment is just disappointing. As a frequent traveller I should have left a long time ago.

Hi @MrTopic!

I'm sad to read that you're thinking of leaving us. Sad

It's important to understand that grandfathered plans are no longer offered, and for this reason aren't updated with new features.

If you'd like me to take another look at your plan options to benefit from Fido Roam, let me know & I'll send you a PM!

Siiigh. Also a loyal customer for over 10 years and SO disappointed to learn I won't be able to take advantage of this either. I DON'T WANT any of the new features like Spotufy etc.. I just want my regular (overpriced as it is) plan with the option to add on roaming when I travel.  I had reps look at my account and was offered less features for a higher price in order to benefit from the roaming. NOT acceptable.

Hey @Wufai! Nice to see you around Smiley

Fido Roam is here! This should answer your question with regards to how calls are billed:

Fido Roam works the same way on a Fido Pulse plan with local or Canada-wide minutes:

    • Calls and texts to local numbers, within the destination you’re in, and back to anywhere in Canada are included and will not be charged long-distance – airtime still applies.
    • All calls and texts to other international destinations will be charged based on the plan and options in your account.
    • Your regular overage rates apply if you go over your plan’s data or minutes.

You can check out @FidoStephane's recent blog for all of the info.

Hope this helps!
