Hi! I have left for Europe for a long time and will no longer use this account and do not want to pay anymore, how can I terminate the contract OR freeze the number for 12 months?

The problem is that I have already used 185 days of freezing and now I understand that I have to pay another six months at 50 dollars a month, BUT I will be in Europe for another 12 months and will not come to Canada. If freezing is no longer possible, how can I refuse the service or terminate the contract? Even with the loss of the number) what will happen if I just do not pay the bill?

Hello again,

Thank you for the additional information. If you have already used your full number of temporary suspension days, you might consider cancelling your services. As mentioned, in my previous post, I believe you would need to call customer service in order to cancel your line. As also mentioned, they provide their From Abroad number to call when outside of Canada.

I would not recommend just not paying the bill(s). Yes, at some point your line would get suspended due to non-payment. However, you would still be responsible for the outstanding balance. Not paying the bills (especially leading to suspension due to non-payment) would also affect your credit in Canada. While your Canadian credit rating might not extend outside of Canada, your Canadian debt will not just disappear when you leave the Country (see here and here).

Even if you might not intend on returning to Canada, I think it would be in your best interest to contact customer service and cancel your line.

Hope this helps ðŸ˜€

Cheers

Hello Viktor2,

Welcome to the community!

Firstly, you should note these forums are community-driven and not intended as a venue for customer services. We do not have access to customers' accounts. Unfortunately, as far as I am aware, cancellations can only be done by calling them:

You may cancel any or all of your Services and any corresponding Agreement at any time by calling us...

~taken from Terms of Service; section 2e

If you would like to go over your options, you would need to contact customer service. Unfortunately, they appear to have removed their customer service via social media options. Though, even if those venues were still available, you would still have likely needed to call customer service to cancel services. I understand you are currently outside of Canada. They do provide a number to call From Abroad. Calling that number from overseas would not incur roaming charges when called from your Fido SIM (see here). Alternatively, customers should also be able to call that number collect from a landline.

Fido does offer an option to pause services. To be honest, I'm not entirely sure of the details for the temporary suspension anymore. At one point, they did offer a temporary suspension for a reduced fee (see here). At that time, only customer service could add the temporary suspension. In addition, as noted in that link, the temporary suspension is only available to a maximum of 185 days per calendar year.

That said, you might be able to add the temporary suspension via your My Account --> My Usage. From your Dashboard, the option to Manage temporary suspension is under Quick Actions.

As far as I am aware, there should be an option to Add temporary suspension (see here).

I do not know if a fee still applies, though.

Hope this helps ðŸ˜€
