strange light on my acer liquid

okay, on the front top of the phone to the right, where there is a 'sensor' window, the guy @ fido said it was the gps sensor.

anwyay, today when i turned the phone on it's been displaying a red led light, pin dot size.  it comes on and goes off now, no real reason for it, since no apps are connecting.

what is that thing? is it a sensor or is it a camera or what?

and anyone know why the red light comes on and off?

That is the light sensor and proximity sensor.  It's used to adjust the LCD brightness in auto-brightness mode,  and to turn the screen off when you put your phone up to your face.
It shouldn't show a red light though.  The proximity sensor works on infrared, so if it's showing visible light there definitely something wrong with it.   Or you have IR-vision.

Re: strange light on my acer liquid

Hi there

Please verify page 7 of the Acer Liquid E user guide in order to better understand the LED light: http://www.searsconnect.ca/fileadmin/pdf/Phone%20Manuals/Acer%20Liquid%20E/UM_Acer_1.0_ENG_Liquid%20...

Re: strange light on my acer liquid

hi thanks for the .pdf, i dont have one of them.

now the scmatic of the phone doesnt even explain that little sensor window.

it's to the right of the speaker on the front, you have to hold the phone to catch the light just right to spot it, natural light is the best way to see this tiny window.  i didnt even see it until that red dot light came on.

it comes on a lot, specificaly when i make a call to my work number [american airlines] ???

someone else told me it might be a light meter for the auto focus.  but why a red dot?

it's clearly there and it has a light on mine.

anyone with an acer can explain to me what this sensor is?  and why the little light comes on when i make a call Sad

it's making me paranoid.

Re: strange light on my acer liquid

Hello chihuahua,

I myself have an Acer Liquid E but have never seen a flashing red light at the top right hand corner of the screen.

I would suggest that you contact Acer directly to see with them how to stop it.

I also found the follwoing thread about this subject:

http://androidforums.com/acer-a1/27860-ambient-light-sensor-flashing-red.html

Let us know how it goes!
