samsung galaxy q not downloading pic text.

Hey, 

 

I just got my phone and I got my first pic text and it has said downloading for a few days now. 

 

Does anybody know what i can do?

Hey everyone!

 

        Although this thread is quite old, I'd like to add a little update since I came across it. A data plan subscription is not necessary to be capable of receiving & sending picture messages But your data option from the phone settings needs to be enable or ON (Data will not be charge). If the mobile data setting is set to Enable or ON yet unable to send/receive picture messages then i recommend you to follow the instructions listed below. Keep in mind that these informations can also be find on Fido.ca or click on the Link below.

For android devices (Save all the changes after completion):

  • Tap on Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names;
  • Once on the APN screen, press the Options button on the device;
  • Tap on New APN
  • Enter a name into the APN Name field.
  • Please insertthe following APN settings:

    APN Settings:

    • APN: Fido-core-appl1.apn
    • If you have a LTE device, use the following setting: LTEMOBILE.APN
    • Leave the following fields blank: Proxy, Port, User Name, Password, Server

    MMS (Picture & Video Messaging Settings):

 

For Non-Smartphone or regular/basic phones:

Check the phone user Guide/manual for instructions on how to get the settings needed to fill in the information below:

 

WAP Settings:

  • APN: wap.fido.ca
  • MMS Proxy: 205.151.11.11
  • MMS Port: 80

Internet Settings:

  • APN: internet.fido.ca
  • MMS Proxy: 205.151.11.11
  • MMS Port: 80

MMS (Picture & Video Messaging Settings):

Hi there bonjernobella, 

 

For future reference there are many posts on this forum that have the answer to your question

 

Do you have access to data over our network?  Sending and receiving Picture messages will only work if you have a data option with Fido.

 

Without a data option, access to internet via our network is restricted. Picture messaging will not work via WiFi.

I found some information on the forums that it was free to recieve pic messages just not send them. I wasnt aware that I needed data to receive a pic text message.

All accounts are provisioned with the data capabilities, however data is not enabled in the billing system of the account,  I was in a similar situation when I did NOT have a data plan and could still receive MMS.  Chances of not downloading Picture Messages (MMS) is most likely due to a non-fido phone, or a phone with a configuration error in the mms settings menu.  There are instructions on here that will explain the correct settings,

As far as I know you do need to have data in order to send/receive MMS. But you could try downloading and using a different SMS app. It worked for me, I just wish I'd thought of it before spending days trying other stuff.
