retrieving text message history

I have a text message I ended chat in a week ago, and need to retrieve an address from it. Is there a way to look at my text history?

Can you give us details on the phone you're using, it might help!  The only way I could think of would be if you have a back up of the conversation saved with your google account let's say or other back up system.
