I would like to know this as well.  Would like to use my fido dollars and trade in my 3gs for the iphone 5.  My contracts has be expired for a couple month already so I would be signing up for another 3 year Agreement.  I would be paying next to nothing if I could do this.

Hello daijiro and all those with the same question,

Here is some clarification:

1. You can use your FidoDollars when you purchase a handset

2. The above statement is true whether you buy with an agreement or without

3. Purchasing handset at full price while using FidoDollars is better done at Fido store/kiosk directly.  Retailers tend to refuse the transaction as per their specific store policy and/or practice.

4. You can do "FidoTrade" only at participating stores (generally fido store/kiosk) and use the credit recieved towards new handset

4. There is a 25$ administration fee when you get a new handset.  This is applied whether with or without agreement. Fido$$ cannot be used towards this fee. (Fee is deemed under administration costs and not tied to hardware cost)

I hope this clarifies all questions and concerns!

Re: buying iphone 5 with my fido dollars...

The following assumes you received a new handset for your 2 year voice agreement. If you just signed a new 2 year agreement to get a better plan and did not get a new handset, all you have to do is pay $12.50 to get out of your current agreement.

To get the iPhone 5 at its fully subsidized price estimated at $159, you need to cancel your current contract paying the Device Recovery Fee plus all other applicable fees, and sign a new 3 year agreement comprised of a minimum $25 voice + $25 data plan totaling $50 per month, in order to use your FidoDollars towards the phone. Alternatively, you can use your FidoDollars to buy the iPhone 5 outright at full retail value. Apple has restricted the selling of the iPhone to either fully subsidized at $159 or purchased outright estimated $649. Hope this helps Smiley

Re: buying iphone 5 with my fido dollars...

Great answer thanks!

No I don't have new handset with my 2 year contract.

WHAT IF I get a new really good retention plan of 50$, data and voice 25$ each. Better plan than I can get through website (say unlimited calls, 6gig data). If I buy subsidized iPhone 5 at launch 159$ would I be able to keep this plan? (and sign new 3 year contract with this plan). Or will they force me to choose a new plan that is on their website.

Thanks

Thanks nick67 for your input.

Unfortunately nobody will be able to give you a concrete answer to your question, nfl1, since Apple has yet to officially annouce a new iPhone. This is all speculation.

If and when you see a new iPhone on our website, we would then have information on compatible plans, options, etc.

I have Fido dollars and a Fido site claims that it will give a trade-in option for an i-phone. Can the 2 amounts be used to purchase an i-phone 5?

Re: buying iphone 5 with my fido dollars...

I have already reserved my iphone 5 to be picked up a local dealer. I want to use a combination of fido dollars and cash to buy my phone outright (i know it will still be locked to fido). i have 5 months left on my current contract and i don't want to change it or renew it yet.

I was told by a friend that last year when he got the iphone 4s, the dealer gave him alot of hassle about having to renew his contract (only 3 months left) even though my friend just wanted to buy the phone outright using his fido dollars and cash.

Is there a requirement that the iphone can only be bought if the client is on a contract with a minimum number of months left?

Re: buying iphone 5 with my fido dollars...

I was able to trade in my iPhone 4 and use my fido dollars, with 4 months left on my old contract and get a new contract with a better deal. Fido rocks!
