Restarting your Nexus 5 in safe mode temporarily disables any third-party apps to see if one of them is causing the problem. If the problem ceases while running in safe mode, then it’s a good signal that a third-party app is the root of the problem. If this is the case, trying updating or uninstalling your most recent app(s) to see if this fixes the problem. To see your most recent apps, go to your Google play store account and My Apps.
