I just have got new iPhone 6 yesterday on my old plan of $60 ($30 talk + $30 add-on with 500BM data). The voice mail is attached to my data. So I am not getting voice mails until my cellular data is on. It's not even giving me the notification. But when I am getting the voice mails it's crossing my 500 MB data for only a few voice mails every month and occasional Facebook surfing everyday. Today, I called Fido to upgrade my plan to make my data 1GB. But they wanted to charge me about $300 for downgrade fee. Ridiculous. I am pissed off for being loyal to Fido for last 6 years. Any suggestion?

Apologies that we missed your post.
The downgrade fee would only apply if you change to a different plan category. Since you have an iPhone, I'll assume you have a Max plan and were asking about changing to a Smart plan. You can change to a different Max plan with more data and you wouldn't incur any downgrade fees.
Thanks for your reply.
I failed to make you understand my issue. My point is - I'm subscribing voicemail but I'm not getting any notification unless I'm connected to cellular data. Fido suggested me to call Apple. No solution yet. Apple suggested keeping all the applications off under cellular data. Not a bad idea. Now I keep data connections off all the time and missing voicemail notifications. I check it once a day. With my limited data (500 MB), I cannot afford to keep it on all the time.
As a subscriber of Fido's voicemail services, I'm pretty sure that it's a miss-sold product.
If I had enough time I would have taken it forward. But I am stuck like many millions of customers in the country in the bad hands of cellular phone companies.
These companies are not rational at all. They should focus on customer satisfaction. Otherwise, any of these companies can be the "BlackBerry" in near future.
Thanks for reading.
I hope you got your issue fixed. For others, I wanted to clarify that Iphones usually have visual voice mail which needs mobile data to work. If you do not like this option then I would suggest following what FidoStephen has said and contact us!
My issue is looked at by FidoStephen. Nothing was done. I am still living with the pain and still don't get voicemail notifications.
Any change of plan will cost lot of money and my contract has just started. I have to bear with this pain at least for next 2 years.
I definitely believe that there should be a fix for it without any financial penalty.
Very disappointed. I wish I could get rid of it.
Thanks for checking with me.
