Internet and MMS APN settings

Since I wanted a smartphone that wasn't a Blackberry or an iPhone, I went with the HTC Desire Z and had it unlocked for the Fido network.  I guess I still have to change my settings as I'm not getting internet (but phone and text works great). So far it's asking for the following:

Name

APN

Proxy

Port

Username

Password

Server

MMSC

MMS proxy

MMS port

MMS protocol

MCC

MNC

Authentication type

APN type

What values am I to fill in for all these fields?

Re: MMS/APN settings for non-Fido phones

I called fido about the APN settings to use with my data plan. The girl was totaly lost for about two minutes. Then she put me on hold and after getting back she offered me to pay $50 to unlock my phone and to get the right settings on my non-fido smart phone. I told her that I already unlocked the phone myself for free and that I already pay fido money for the data services. She said in this case google is your best friend.

These are the settings "my best friend" found for me that worked on my AT&T Samsung Galaxy S Captivate:

Name   fido

APN   internet.fido.ca

Proxy   not set

Port   not set

Username   fido

Password   fido

Server   not set

MMSC   mms.fido.ca

MMS proxy   205.151.011.013

MMS port   not set

MMS protocol   don't have this one on my phone

MCC   302

MNC   37

Authentication type   not set

APN type   internet + mms

After entering these settings I had to press on the menu key (menu, home, search, back) a little window pops up asking if you want to save it. I selected yes.  It showed me my new APN settings and I had to select it by clicking on the radio button next to it after which that button turned green. After that I had to enable roaming and the 3G icon poped up right away. If you travel to US you better disable roaming services before you go there. If you are in Canada you can use your data anywhere as long as you are on Rogers network without any extra charge.

Re: MMS/APN settings for non-Fido phones

Using an unlocked Motorola Droid 2 Global phone with Android 2.2 and a Fido SIM card, these settings worked for me:

Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks > Access point names:

Name: fido

APN: internet.fido.ca

Proxy: not set

Port: not set

Username: fido

Password: fido

Server: 205.151.011.011

MMS proxy: not set

MMS port: not set

MCC: 302

MNC: 370

Authentication type: not set

APN type: not set

Then, Settings > Data manager > Data Delivery

Data Roaming: TRUE

Data enabled: TRUE

Re: MMS/APN settings for non-Fido phones

I just bought unlocked N8 from amazon, took the sim out of my Nokia 3500 and put it in the phone did the Nokia phone sync and ported my contacts and stuff off the old phone by bluetooth.

Everything worked fine (didn't have data subscription) and kept getting bumped to the website that asks me to purchase Data Pass when I wasn't in a wifi spot. I didn't change any settings. I called and got a data plan added to my contract and it was working 10 mins later.

Maybe the settings came from my old sim or phone? Now I'm reading here and getting scared I'm going to get hosed because I don't have some setting, or if I change something I'll get hosed. Don't even know which.

Anyone know if there are some fido settings I need to put in my phone (and how?) since obviously no one trusts fido for anything?

I have in Menu>Settings>Connectivity>Settings>Destinations>Internet>Fido GPRS (Priority: 2):

Connection Name: Fido GPRS

Data bearer: Packet Data

Access point name: internet.fido.ca

Username: None

Prompt password: No

Password: ****

Authentication: Normal

Homepage: None

Then under Wap Services>Fido WAP (Priority 1):

Connection Name: Fido Wap

Data bearer: Packet Data

Access point name: wap.fido.ca

Username: None

Prompt password: No

Password: ****

Authentication: Normal

Homepage: None

Is Fido about to screw me over?

Re: MMS/APN settings for non-Fido phones

Hello eldeejay,

Please rest assured that if you were prompted for the Data Pass and that the data option is working, all settings are okay within your phone as otherwise, it simply would not work since Fido does not offer Pay-Per-Use data anymore.

Re: MMS/APN settings for non-Fido phones

N8......It took me a few days but I finally got the MMS to work! I did  have to add a new access point. I titled it "fido mms" and added all the setting from my old Nokia(which was not Fido either) and it worked !!!!!!! Yeah!!!
